Clara Valley Fiddlers' Association
- The Santa Clara
Valley, in Northern California, is known to the world as "Silicon Valley"
and the home of many computer and technology companies. It's also the
home of an organization that is focused on the other end of the spectrum.
The Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers' Association is a non-profit organization
dedicated to the preservation of traditional types of American music
known as Old Time, Bluegrass and Gospel Music, as played on the Fiddle
and other acoustic stringed instruments.

Soloman
Branch Band
- The
Solomon Branch Band was formed in September 2000. A five member group
that loves to make music,The Solomon Branch Band features folks relatively
new to picking and seasoned veterans. Its performance staple is old
time dance music.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Southern Folklife Collection
on the fourth floor of Wilson Library houses one of the world's largest
collections of Southeastern-tradition derived music.

- Smithsonian Folkways'
website offers all of their titles online. Their catalog includes a
great many Old-Time releases, including quite a few new offerings you
may not have in your collection. The 2-CD set, "Mountain Music of Kentucky"
is one of my new favorites.

Mountain String Band
- "Spud Mountain
is an old time acoustic country music and dance band operating around
Portland, Oregon. Our instrumentation is similar to a bluegrass band,
but also can include tuba, tenor banjo and cello. Our repertoire is
drawn mostly from commercial country and rural-folk recordings made
in the 1920s and 30s and post-war field recordings."

Swannanoa Gathering Old-Time Week
- Old-Time Music
& Dance Week at the Swannanoa Gathering (in late July), explores
the rich music, dance, singing and storytelling traditions of the southern
Appalachian region through a wide range of classes taught by an experienced
and supportive staff. The daily Communal Gathering features visits from
local Master musicians and singers from western North Carolina, and
elsewhere in the Appalachian region. Evening activities will include
jam sessions, singing, square and contra dances, concerts.
